By Julie Aylward Are you rushing from one activity to the next? Do you multi-task all day long? Are you constantly distracted by your phone, e-mails, and the media? Do you ever take the time to slow down and breathe? Our students live in a fast-paced world and need to learn how to manage stress, to focus and lead balanced lives. To aid upper elementary students, we will be using the Mind-Up program to teach them how to take time to breathe and slow down. To begin the day, during transitions, and at day's end, students will take a moment to breathe deeply and regain focus. They will learn to be mindful of their thoughts, words, and actions. The lessons taught will help students improve their attention and build a positive mindset towards school and life. Students will learn skill's associated with their brain’s executive functions, mindful listening, perspective taking, choosing optimism, and expressing gratitude. We feel confident that the benefits to be gained will last a lifetime!
