Mrs. Kovacs Casa Pod ll As we finally enter the Autumn season, we reflect on the busy first term of school. We are proud to say that all of the students have settled into our daily routines and work happily each day. We will be welcoming parents to Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, November 2nd. Please sign up for a time slot online. There will be no school on this day as interviews will be held all day, nor on Friday, November, 3rd since it is a PA Day for teachers. In November, we will be discussing and learning all about Inukshuks. An inukshuk is a human-made stone structure used by the Inuit people of Canada as a symbol of welcoming and friendship. We will be exploring various kinds of inukshuks and using them as a symbol of anti-bullying in Pod Two. This will lead to our anti-bullying week discussions. Through our cultural and art materials, the students will learn about the inukshuk structure as a Canadian symbol and even how to build their own inukshuks. We can’t wait! At this time, the graduate students will begin their exploration of Canada. We will work with the puzzle map of Canada and the provincial flags, to complete a very large Canada Project ( a rite of passage in Pod Two). They will learn the meaning of provinces and territories, as well as the directions for North, South, East, and West. We will also discuss the importance of Canada’s 150 years. Just a reminder, please update your child’s extra clothing bag with labeled clothes suitable for the changing weather.
