by M. Kovacs With sunshine and longer days on the horizon, grade four students will be bringing out their inner green thumbs. Biology is an important part of the elementary curriculum. The Botany component -- the study of plants -- takes centre stage through much of the Spring months. We will be doing a lot of planting and growing through April and making a visit to a local greenhouse (details to come). Giving children the chance to learn kinesthetically is built into the Montessori curriculum. We will continue to study the Middle Ages in April, which will include a component where students will apply scientific concepts such as pulleys, levers, and aerodynamics to recreating medieval weapons and tools. They did very well in building their longships and medieval homes, so I anticipate great things from this study. Finally, best of luck to the grade four students who are competing in the 2018 Caribou Mathematics Competition as well as the Spelling Bee of Canada. The contest is in early April with the time to be determined.
