By Mr. Kovacs Grade Four We are so blessed to be living in Niagara, with its tremendous green space highlighted by the Bruce Trail. As a kick-off to our study of Canadian Biomes, the grade four class embarked on our first of many visits to the Bruce Trail with Nature Schools of Niagara. This unique program provides students with the ultimate outdoor learning environment. Situated in Grimsby, the sprawling forest is the vehicle for exploration and discovery. Students are encouraged to observe, test, and manipulate what they find in a safe, respectful manner. There is a lot of team-building and problem solving incorporated into each visit. The learning that goes on during the visit is a joy to see, but the in-depth study that comes thereafter in the classroom takes learning to another level. Students are encouraged to bring part of what they find back for further research and analysis using the Scientific Method. At the conclusion of each project, students are encouraged to share their findings with their classmates, providing a platform for presentation skills.
