Mlle Lepp Upper Elementary This December, students in grades five through eight will be exercising “both sides of their brain”: their academic side (as they study and work hard for exams) and their creative side. In French class, we have been working on French plays that are to be presented mid-December. The students have shown great enthusiasm towards the plays and are very eager to display their fantastic acting and French-speaking skills (and to experiment with props)! While the students show great enthusiasm during French class, it is more often than not that students are unable to use their French outside of the classroom. To motivate students to interact with the language outside of class, they have been given one goal: find the French! Living in Canada, we are very fortunate to have an official second language that we are exposed to on a daily basis, even if we don’t always see it. Almost every Canadian household item is equipped with ingredients, instructions, logos, etc. in both French and English. While Wheatley continues to contribute to our Holiday Food Drive, students are encouraged to examine the items they donate to “find the French” and to see how the skills they’ve learned in class could be applied to items that would have never even crossed their minds! With a keen eye and an inspired mind, you never know what you will find! Bonne chance !
