Principal’s Message December 2017-January 2018 December’s arrival marks the end of the first term and a time to reflect on the past months of school. We had an incredible first term. Our students’ enthusiasm and eagerness displayed on the first day of school continued throughout the term. It is a joy to teach children who have a great willingness to learn and take pride in their work. The success we observed was not only in academics and the sports field, but also in character development. We thank you, parents, for your efforts to help support, encourage and reinforce the concepts we teach here at school. December also marks the beginning of the holiday season- a time during which we reflect on our blessings and offer what we can in the spirit of giving. The students participate in many activities that involve giving to others less fortunate. Last month, we had a very successful food drive. Thank you to everyone who brought non-perishable food items for the Food Bank. Our December Community Care Toy Drive and Gift Cards will benefit greatly from your generosity. I want to thank everyone for continuously supporting these worthwhile projects. The spirit of giving is a valuable life lesson we want our students to learn. Please include them when choosing toys. As the end of term draws near, students and teachers are considering the growth and development that needs to continue as well as new challenges for the new year. A new year brings new beginnings and another opportunity to do better. As a school, we will continue to focus on Literacy with our younger students and Assessment with our older students. The last few weeks of school are filled with many activities that take place this time of year. Students in Upper Elementary are getting ready to write exams. Best wishes go out to the Grade 5 students who will be writing their very first exams. Teachers are busy preparing report cards, and our younger students are putting a lot of effort into rehearsing for the much-anticipated Holiday Concert. Please note this newsletter covers both December and January. It is important to thoroughly read the newsletter and check the calendar so that you don’t miss any important information. Our school is truly blessed to have so many dedicated and wonderful parents help our school in so many ways. From the Wheatley Staff, we would like to wish everyone the peace and joy of the holiday season and a Happy New Year full of success, good health, and happiness for 2018.
